Ocean Way Studios with Jeremy Crady
jeremy crady, of whom i had the privilege of taking these promo shots a few weeks back, asked me to come photograph a recording session of his over at oceanway studios here in nashville. little did i know that i would be amongst some of the greatest session players in this town, including the great pianist, bobby wood (who played on elvis’s suspicious minds, among other things).
having grown up in good ol’ music city usa, i’ve been in and around my share of studios with people of all ranges of skill and music style. however, this had to be the most jolly, laid back group of musicians i’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. they literally listened to the song through once, glanced at their charts, then all went into the studio and played it through twice to near perfection. one or two guys punched in on a few spots and then they were done before the hour was up. ridiculous. i suppose that when you’re just that good at your instrument you get to skip the frustrating take after take after take that can tend to make recording a long, grueling nightmare.
thanks everyone for being so kind, and thanks again jeremy for letting me be a fly on the wall!
